Controversial Politician, meet controversial political punching bag...

Wed May 07, 2008 at 07:42:41 PM PDT

I was walking around Los Angeles' melrose district.  If you don't know it, it's similar to Haight/Ashbury in San Francisco.  It's basically a fashion district.

Anyway, I came across a series of posters plastered against a wall of cheap temporary wood, protecting a construction site.  There were about 20 posters for the popular video game "Grand Theft Auto IV", and few had been vandalized, but in favor of a politician I much approve of.

...

So here is Barack Obama's head in the place of 'Niko', the star of the video game.  Niko comes to America to fulfill the 'American Dream', something Obama has done quite well for himself already.  However, unlike Obama, Niko is good friends with quite a few terrorists, does quite a few bad things, and at last, becomes the punching bag for Leibermans everywhere.

It's a violent and controversial game, and Obama has recently been a highly controversial politician.

I find the parallels amusing, and trust me, I don't usually look that far into the meanings behind melrose graffiti.  I'll stop and stare at the occasional Banksy, or anti-war murals, but never have I given a lot of thought to it.

I thought it was interesting mainly because of the media's constant narrative over the apathy of my generation.  The millennial generation.  The idea that the youth of america are detached, and uninterested.  I don't buy it.  I don't buy it, when I'm in the middle of the trendiest part of a trendy ass city and I see the most popular video game in recent history being 'tainted' with love for a presidential candidate.

Just thinking aloud...
